Tax Day 2024 is on April 15th, two weeks from today. If you have not submitted your taxes, this short and sweet newsletter has some resources for you! I am not affiliated with any of the institutions of businesses listed here.

If you make less than $79,000/year after the standard deduction, you can file for free federal and state using one of the IRS’s tax preparation software partners.

• Free Tax USA 
  • Can handle non-compensatory income
  • If your AGI is less than $40,000/year, the state return is free
  • Can only handle domestic returns

• OLT 
  • They list 1040-NR
  • This partner might have some issues with countries with a tax treaty
  • Some NRA students mention it can be clunky. (see other resources for NRA students below)

 A new tax tool to file your federal taxes for free directly with the IRS only for those with very simple returns.

• PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE consider giving this pilot a shot so in the future it can become the standard 🙂
• The lucky states are: Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and Wyoming
• This pilot is not for you, if you do itemized deductions, have business income (schedule c), or claim specific credits.
• You still have to do your state return "somehow", like the free file listed above.

As long as you meet the income threshold, this resource is free for everyone
