My name is Carolina Mendoza Cavazos and I am the owner of Finances with Carolina LLC. I obtained a Ph.D. in Microbiology in 2022 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. During my PhD, I studied parasites. Nowadays, I am working at Promega, a private biotechnology company.
I would describe myself as a triple decker: woman, minority, and immigrant. My interest in personal finance began fairly early in my childhood but it spiked during my second year due to a back injury and the current healthcare system.

In 2020, while serving as a student representative for the Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee of the microbiology graduate program, I saw a niche of being ignored: personal finance. Thus, I founded a money club for biosciences scholars, especially students that face many intricacies due to being funded. Here I realized that money is such a taboo topic and WE REALLY NEED TO CHANGE THAT. Many graduate students had the same financial questions about funding, taxes, eligibility for retirement, among others. Finances with Carolina LLC is the the result of that money club and my way to contribute to financial literacy and DEI efforts.

During graduate school I work a lot with administration to better the life of graduate students, I can assure you I have your best interest in mind. My goal is that ALL graduate students have access to the resources to work towards financial security. let me work with you to improve your relationship with money and develop habits that support your personal finance health! I always aim to provide free financial education to students by working with graduate programs to sponsor seminars or coaching sessions.
